Workshop on Roadmap to Promote Highly Energy Efficient Products (Case Studies for Promotion RAC Equipment in Thailand)

24 April 2018

On 20 April 2018, the Thailand Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (RAC NAMA) Project, which is implemented by the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), has organised the “Workshop on Roadmap to Promote Highly Energy Efficient Products” (Case Studies for Promotion RAC Equipment in Thailand) at the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. The workshop was focused on promoting high energy efficiency appliances in the RAC sector in Thailand. The promotion of energy efficiency will support Thailand to meet its ambition of reducing energy consumption according to its Energy Efficiency Plan, and to meet its pledged target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The workshop aims to bring relevant stakeholders and experts from Thailand and abroad to exchange knowledge and experiences. It was attended by key stakeholders from the government and private sector from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), the Electrical and Electronics Institute (EEI), the Federation of Thai Industries (Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Club), the Consumer Protection Association of Thailand (CPAT) and the Thai Refrigeration Association (TRA).

It was an honor to have Mr. Sarat Prakobchat, Director of Energy Efficiency Promotion Bureau from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), giving the opening remarks. Mr. Philipp Pischke, Acting Project Director and Technical Advisor, along with representatives from DEDE, TISI, EGAT and OCPB gave presentations on case studies and future outlook in the RAC sector. There were sessions for group discussions on practices from case studies and recommendations. Overall, the workshop was a platform for capacity-building and knowledge sharing on policies, measures and regulations regarding the promotion of high energy efficiency appliances in the RAC sector.

The workshop concluded with a discussion about recommendations on an integration plan between agencies which will allow for a more effective promotion of high energy efficiency appliances in the RAC sector that is appropriate to Thailand.
