On 18-25 May 2019, representatives from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), attended a study trip in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany. The study trip promoted knowledge exchange between the delegates and the public and private sector in Germany with expertise and experience in climate finance and RAC applications.
In order to provide an insight to the delegates on innovative financial instruments in the cooling sector, an expert from the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) shared experiences on mobilising financial instruments in the Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (RHVAC) sector for private and commercial consumers.
A visit at the Deutsche Bank and a meeting with its representative provided the delegates with an understanding about the role of the banking sector in green energy finance. Moreover, the delegates attended a meeting with a representative from the European Investment Bank, one of the largest providers of climate-related investment globally, where they learned about business models behind green investments.
The delegates met with GIZ Proklima to learn about its activities to promote energy-efficient and climate-friendly “Green Cooling” in partner countries. They visited Nordfrost GmbH to see best practices of green cooling applications in the RHVAC sector.
The study trip was also an excellent opportunity for an exchange platform with the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) on climate policies and targets in Thailand.
